It is predicted that 5G in Indonesia will arrive in 2021. The President of Ericsson Indonesia, Jerry Soper, revealed that most telecommunication operators have invested in backhaul infrastructure.
As quoted from cnnindonesia.com, the Swedish technology company believes that the implementation of 5G in Indonesia will be possible in 2021. The government together with telecommunication cellular operators has massively put their infestation in the fiber optic and backbone infrastructure.
The Indonesian government is currently looking for 5G spectrum options to be used. Two spectrums that so far are the main choices for the early days of 5G implementation in Indonesia are the 2.6 GHz and 3.5 GHz.
The Ministry of Communication and Information of Indonesia has prepared the frequency to support the 5G in Indonesia. The frequency spectrum soon to be used in Indonesia starts from 600 MHz to 6 GHz, especially in the 3.5 GHz and 4.2 GHz ranges.
There was once widely heard that the 5G network was a tool for spreading the coronavirus. However, this news was denied by the Chief Technology Officer of Ericsson APAC, Magnus Ewerbring.
According to him, the news is false and ridiculous because 5G radio waves do not carry biological viruses.
Johnny G Plate, Minister of Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia, said that COVID19 has an impact on cellular operators’ investment plans in 5G and IoT (Internet of Things) networks.
However, Johnny hopes that the industry can implement 5G and IoT in accordance with mobile operators. Meanwhile, Indonesia has conducted 5G trials in the upper-frequency spectrum.
